We got important facts wrong.
The story conflated two separate ICE facilities: the ICE Phoenix District Office in Phoenix and the Arizona Removal Operations Coordination Center in Mesa. The accompanying social media graphic also incorrectly identified the facility as being in Mesa.
We also failed to adequately credit Arizona Mirror reporter Jerod MacDonald-Evoy, whose original reporting was the basis for the story.
Those are our mistakes.
We removed the article and the related social media posts rather than quietly editing them after publication.
